SPECTRUM XXI 2009 Paris, October 3-5

The Talea Ensemble has brought innovative programs featuring numerous world and U.S. premieres to New York City by composers such as Stefano Gervasoni, Marco Stroppa, Anthony Cheung, Pierluigi Billone, Jean-Luc Hervé, and Alexandre Lunsqui.   By commissioning and programming these progressive works alongside the established literature of modern and contemporary repertoire, the ensemble creates a dialogue that challenges the boundaries of music and fosters a greater understanding of the works of today.

The Talea Ensemble has been invited as guest ensemble to the Nevada Encounters of New Music (NEON), La Ciudad de las Ideas (Mexico) and the International Contemporary Music Festival of Lima, Peru. The Talea Ensemble has served as ensemble in residence at Columbia University as well as at New York University.

Upcoming projects include a residency at Harvard University, a Stockhausen Tribute, Pierre Boulez's 85th Birthday Celebration with Boulez in attendance, and a European tour in collaboration with the Hyperion Ensemble.

The Hyperion Ensemble was founded in 1976 by the composer Iancu Dumitrescu. It is a tradition of performance, of interpreting each new score as a provocation of the spirit, and a quest for new domains of sound. Aesthetically, at the heart of this work is the notion of spectrality as it developed in the work of Dumitrescu, Avram and other Romanian composers - that is: a specifically transformational spectrality, as opposed to the structural spectrality of the French “Itinéraire” group.

Hyperion has performed all over Europe –and recently in United States, and recorded numerous LPs and 24 compact discs.( Mode Records- New York, 2008)
